Ant-Man and The Wasp Review

Ant-Man and The Wasp is the sequel to the first Ant-Man movie and has major implications for what comes next in the MCU with Avengers: Endgame, but also with its upcoming sequel Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania and the next Avengers movie, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.

This movie does the heaviest lifting in bringing the Quantum Realm to people's attention and again has pretty heavy ties to the movies I listed before.

While it does set up lots of cool things, this movie just isn't great. It's perfectly fine, I just wish it was better.

A lot of the smart humor from the first Ant-Man movie is not present here but instead replaced by cringy and mainstay "Marvel humor" that cuts the tension when the scenes really need to remain serious.

A lot of the action that was so thought out and awesome in the first Ant Man is not really present here either. It really feels like they just went with the first idea that popped into their head while writing the movie instead of giving it more thought and care. That said, the performances are still solid. Michael Douglas, Evangeline Lily, and Hannah John Kamen give very good performances while Paul Rudd is still ad-libbing like the madman he is, which isn't always a bad thing.

Overall, the best part about the movie is the score, the set up for what's to come, and the performances. Otherwise, it's not something I enjoy going back to re-watch.

Ant-Man and The Wasp gets a C.
